Project overview

Aerial survey of the old railway corridor between Charlestown, County Mayo and Collooney, County Sligo. The project consisted of carrying out a 36km aerial survey using a fixed wing drone to capture the aerial photography. The project was carried out and delivered over a 6 week period.


Project solution

  • Survey carried out using a variety of methods and technologies including Trimble UX5 HP UAV and Trimble R10 GNSS.

  • Installation of ground control points for future use during construction surveyed using static GNSS methods

  • The aerial survey data was also verified using GNSS Network RTK to ensure accuracy of the final ground model.

  • The aerial survey was processed using the latest Trimble aerial survey processing software with vegetation and buildings removed to create an accurate DTM for design purposes.

  • The aerial survey was completed in 2 weeks and the final delivery of data was completed in 4 weeks.


Project delivery

  • Bare Earth model in LAS format with 2 points per square meter.

  • TIN model and contours in AutoCAD format.

  • 4cm pixel orthophoto in ECW format.
