M1/M50 Junction laser scanning survey

M1/M50 Junction laser scanning survey

Project overview

Laser scan survey of 900m of pavement at the M1/M50 junction roundabout and on ramp. The survey work was carried out on weekend nights with lanes being closed off by M50 Concession LTD. to facilitate the works. Using laser scanning ensured that accurate high density data was safely captured.

Project solution

  • Surveys carried out utilising a variety of methods and technologies including using precise levelling, Trimble S6 robotic total station, Trimble R10 GNSS receivers and Trimble TX8 laser scanner.

  • The final survey accuracy was +/- 5mm. This was achieved by using the Trimble TX8 laser scanner setup over permanent control stations installed every 50m along the route.

  • The survey specification required that all detail be captured including a 0.25m level grid.

  • All traffic management was in compliance with Chapter 8 guidelines.

  • Over 159,000 points in the final AutoCAD drawing.

Project delivery

  • 3D AutoCAD survey.

  • P,E,N,Z,D ASCII format.

  • MX Genio.
