Limerick Railway Station Topographical and BIM survey

Limerick Railway Station Topographical, Measured Building Survey and Revit model.

Project overview

This project consisted of carrying out a detailed laser scanning survey and topographical survey of Limerick (Colbert) Station buildings, car parks and yards. The internal areas were surveyed using laser scanning methods and over 600 laser scans with 360 photos were captured to produce a colour point cloud and immersive photo viewer of the station. The external areas were laser scanned and also surveyed using conventional surveying techniques as required.

Project solution

  • Surveys carried out utilising a variety of methods and technologies including using Trimble SX10 robotic total station/laser scanner, Trimble R12 GNSS receivers, Trimble TX8 laser scanner, Nodal Ninja camera system and Trimble X7 laser scanner.

  • High definition 360 degree photography was also captured at each set-up to assist BIM modelling and act as a photographic record.

  • A Trimble Realworks virtual model was also delivered as part of the specification. The model can be view using an Internet explorer web browser version 8 or newer.

  • Detailed BIM model in Revit format was produced and delivered to the client.

  • As part of this project we also produced a separate of detailed AutoCAD drawings in addition to the Revit outputs.

  • Our crews also worked out of hours to carry out surveys of busy internal parts of the station.

Project delivery

  • 2D/3D Topographical Survey in AutoCAD format.

  • Detailed floor plans, elevations and sections in AutoCAD format.

  • BIM models in Revit format.

  • Trimble Realworks virtual model.
