Rotunda Hospital BIM Model and Building Survey

Rotunda Hospital BIM Model and Building Survey

Project overview

Topographical survey and laser scanning survey of parts of Rotunda Hospital. The project consisted laser scanning to produce a BIM model and measured building survey for planning purposes. The project was carried out and delivered over a 3 week period.

Project solution

  • Surveys carried out utilising a variety of methods and technologies including using Trimble S6 robotic total station, Trimble R10 GNSS receiver, Trimble TX8 laser scanner and Nodal Ninja camera system.
  • High definition 360 degree photography was also captured at each set-up to assist BIM modelling and act as a photographic record.
  • A Trimble Realworks virtual model was also delivered to the client free of charge. The model can be view using an Internet explorer web browser version 8 or newer.
  • Detailed measured building plans and sections also produced using the laser scanning data.
  • Our crews also worked out of hours to carry out the internal laser scanning of the delivery suite and wards.

Project delivery

  • BIM models in Revit format.
  • Topographical survey, measured building plans and sections in AutoCAD format.

N80 UAV Aerial Survey

N80 UAV Aerial Survey

Project overview

UAV aerial survey of areas along water course adjacent to N80 road. Over 80 hectares was surveyed as part of this project with the data being used for flood plain modelling.

Project solution

  • Survey carried out using a variety of methods and technologies including Trimble UX5 HP UAV and Trimble R10 GNSS.
  • Aerial survey and installation of ground control carried out in less than one day.
  • Survey grade GNSS system on board the UAV ensured that all deliverables met the client's accuracy specification.
  • Survey carried out and delivered in 1 week. To survey this area on the ground to the required specification would have taken 5-6 weeks.

Project delivery

  • Topographical survey in AutoCAD format.
  • 2m DTM in AutoCAD and ASCII format.

N11 Gorey to Enniscorthy PPP Scheme

N11 Gorey to Enniscorthy PPP Scheme

Project overview

Detailed topographical survey and checking of control prior to the start of construction.  The survey consisted of surveying 16.5 kms of roads, 15 kms of watercourses and 50 hectares of infill survey in overgrown areas. The surveys were carried out over a 40 km corridor from the N11 Frankfort round about to the N11 tie-in point south of Enniscorthy. The project was surveyed and delivered within 6 weeks from starting on site.

Project solution

  • Surveys carried out utilising a variety of methods and technologies including using Trimble S6 robotic total stations and Trimble R10 GNSS receivers.
  • The survey included working on live roads including the N11. All surveys were carried in compliance with Chapter 8 traffic management regulations.
  • Multiple teams were deployed to site at short notice to ensure the project was delivered on time.
  • We also checked if existing survey control was still in situ and installed new survey control if needed.

Project delivery

  • 3D AutoCAD 1:500 topographical survey plans.
  • 3D AutoCAD 1:500 water course surveys including section photos.

Survey of water towers

Survey of water towers

Project overview

Detailed topographical and elevation surveys of 25 water towers located throughout the north and west Leinster. The surveys had to be carried out over a 16 week period as per a detailed schedule agreed in advance with Irish water.

Project solution

  • Surveys carried out utilising a variety of methods and technologies including Trimble S6 robotic total station, Trimble R10 GNSS receiver and Trimble TX8 laser scanner.
  • All topographical survey details were captured including underground pipes and sizes.
  • Internal surveys of towers also carried out and included as part of the topographical survey drawings.
  • 360 degree photography captured as part of the elevation surveys was used by the client as for producing detailed condition reports.
  • Our crews had to mobilise and survey at least one tower site per day due to limited access.

Project delivery

  • AutoCAD 1:500 topographical survey plans.
  • AutoCAD 1:50 elevation drawings.

Belfast Tidal Study

Belfast Tidal Study

Project overview

Survey of flood defences along the river Lagan and threshold levels in Belfast City centre/East Belfast. The survey consisted of 7.5kms of flood defences and 1,200 threshold levels. The project was surveyed and delivered in 6 weeks.

Project solution

  • Surveys carried out using a variety of methods and technologies including precise levelling, Trimble S6 Robotic total station and Trimble R10 GNSS receivers.
  • Integrated surveying techniques increased accuracy and efficiency.
  • Our teams were required to gain access to over 600 private residential properties to survey door step levels. Access was achieved for all properties.
  • Survey of flood defences along the Lagan included over 2kms of Belfast harbour. We worked with the Belfast port authority to achieve access to secure areas located in the port.

Project delivery

  • AutoCAD 2D and 3D for flood defences along with ASCII output.
  • AutoCAD 2D and Mapinfo for threshold levels.
