N71 Releagh Retaining wall topographical survey

N71 Releagh Retaining wall topographical survey

Project overview

Topographical survey of N71 road and laser scanning of retaining wall at Releagh, Co. Kerry. Due to difficult access around the area of the retaining the wall this part of the survey was carry out remotely using laser scanning methods. The project was surveyed and delivered in 1 week.

Project solution

  • Surveys carried out utilising a variety of methods and technologies including the use of Trimble S6 robotic total station, Trimble R10 GNSS receivers and Trimble TX8 laser scanner.

  • The final survey accuracy was +/- 5mm. This was achieved by installing control points using a total station traverse and then setting up over these control points.

  • The retaining wall could not be accessed directly so it was surveyed from a safe position 50m away to produce a full 3D point cloud survey of the face which was then used to create an accurate TIN model.

  • All traffic management was in compliance with Chapter 8 guidelines.

Project delivery

  • 3D AutoCAD survey.

  • TIN Model in AutoCAD format.

  • Detailed survey report in word format.
